Down By The Water

This is some old work I shot when I first got my canon 85mm 1.2. I had this image in my head of a girl down a stream with a nice dress on.

I wanted to shoot a girl with her hair flowing in the stream shot from above but it never happened. Instead I just shot a few pieces that I thought were nice.

I am still waiting for the hair in the stream shot to be done but I hope to have that shot soon because I really like working with this model and she definitely has the right look for it.

First Try At Food photography

I have never tried food photography before. I have seen and admired it but never cooked something lovely plated it up and photographed. So many people do it on social media like Instagram but I have never done it for Photoshoot. That may be a reason I've put it off for so long because of the excessive amount of food pictures that are the internet taken by cameras on phones.

This was for a university project and it was all to do with Great British food. This could be anything from Sunday roast to Victoria sponge cake. I love rustic food, a lot of roast meat and veg. It looks so appetising when it's all thrown into a tray, put in the oven and placed onto the dining table for everyone to tuck in.

I definitely wanted to shoot a joint of meat. For my first try I went with a red meat, specifically a rack of lamb. I love red meat cooked to about medium-rare and I thinks that's when it's most aesthetically pleasing with still abut of pink inside.

The concept was to show the food and too show something that was in the frame but on a wider view. So I was shooting on slate tile so I went to a slate mine and shot a whole stack of it so the colour tones would match in each photo. I think it works as a double page spread but I will try more options for a final.

Alex Butler Photoshoot

This was my first Photoshoot when I started this university course at Newcastle college. It was a few weeks In and I was approached by a band that I had heard through friends.
They wanted some new shots for their website and Facebook page.
It was a great shoot, the lads were amazing. Great banter and were up for anything.

I used the biggest soft box the uni had to offer, it's was about 150 x 100 rectangular soft box. This let me light the whole group and get they best soft light for my close ups.

Nike Free Run 5.0 Photo shoot

We were given the brief for our next project and it was to shoot a 10 second moving image piece to advertise a shoe of our choice. We decided to go with a shoe that was built for sports and primarily running. Our theme was to have someone running through the forest being chased by something.
The weather meant the video would be sunny and lots of highlights so too make the movie look dark and mysterious would be very difficult. This is a few behind the shots from the day shooting. I wanted to get a few detail shots to go along with the video.

This was the second part of our project. We were too show of the shoe in the studio. I wanted to go for a very advertising heavy look. The gels were on a honeycombed reflector and a snoot. I would like to have had too snoots but i thought this would look fine. I would like to revisit this too shoot it exactly how i want it.

Creative Portraiture

After been given a brief at University for our first module. We were asked to do portraiture. 2 photos on the streets and 1 in a studio situation.
The street portraiture part of the project was a test to see if we could approach strangers and ask them if they would mind if we took their portrait. I found this really exciting because i like meeting and talking to new people. I don't mind approaching people and starting conversations with people ive never met before.

I really wanted to find interesting people and not to look an 'average joe'. As i was walking around Newcastle, i saw a man standing on the charles grey monument. He was having a cigarette and when i finally approached him i found he was waiting for friends. I told him about i was documenting the people of Newcastle and that i was envious of his beard. We had a cigarette together and then i finally got the camera out and photographed him. He had no objections towards having his photo taken.
For the creative we had to create a hat using what ever we wanted. I chose to create a look a like of the crown of thorns from the bible. The lighting i used was one soft box to camera right and it was high up.

Fashion Bikini Look Book Finals

For college we had the task of shooting a look book for a fashion company. I didnt chose a brand as such but i just went with swimwear. The shoot was deathly cold, I shot at northumberland up a hill were it was 20mph winds and near freezing.
I loved my outdoor lighting, the 2 soft boxes looked great.
Have a look!

Look Book Practise

This week i took flashheads out from my college and practised with them at home. I am shooting a fashion look book for college so wanted to test lighting and poses with my model. The two Flashheads at first did have problems talking to each other with the infra red connection. The flash at first wasnt travelling far enough to hit the unit. I wanted to see how ND filters helped out with flash and shallow depth of field. The final shots came out nice. The poses work also for the swimwear i am shooting.
